Summary

From the #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The 48 Laws of Power comes the definitive new book on decoding the behavior of the people around you

Robert Greene is a master guide for millions of readers, distilling ancient wisdom and philosophy into essential texts for seekers of power, understanding and mastery。 Now he turns to the most important subject of all - understanding people's drives and motivations, even when they are unconscious of them themselves。

We are social animals。 Our very lives depend on our relationships with people。 Knowing why people do what they do is the most important tool we can possess, without which our other talents can only take us so far。 Drawing from the ideas and examples of Pericles, Queen Elizabeth I, Martin Luther King Jr, and many others, Greene teaches us how to detach ourselves from our own emotions and master self-control, how to develop the empathy that leads to insight, how to look behind people's masks, and how to resist conformity to develop your singular sense of purpose。 Whether at work, in relationships, or in shaping the world around you, The Laws of Human Nature offers brilliant tactics for success, self-improvement, and self-defense。

This book follows the same style as the author's other books;A story from the past followed by interpretation and understanding。 While reading it I found myself on an introspection tour。My opinion is that you should not follow every law without really understanding the concept or it can corrupt you。 This book is for those who understand that a person is not good or evil by birth。 The skills like empathy and judgement makes a person whatever he is。I rated it 4 because I have read many books like This book follows the same style as the author's other books;A story from the past followed by interpretation and understanding。 While reading it I found myself on an introspection tour。My opinion is that you should not follow every law without really understanding the concept or it can corrupt you。 This book is for those who understand that a person is not good or evil by birth。 The skills like empathy and judgement makes a person whatever he is。I rated it 4 because I have read many books like this。 But for beginners,it's a gem。And ya, every one should read one of these。 。。。more

I wouldn't recommend reading this book because it is not worth the time devoted to sit and read it。 I however recommend a free audio version of it。 Why free? because it is not worth the money。 Why audio? because you can listen to it while doing other things。 I found the book telling me stuff I'd already known。 I wouldn't recommend reading this book because it is not worth the time devoted to sit and read it。 I however recommend a free audio version of it。 Why free? because it is not worth the money。 Why audio? because you can listen to it while doing other things。 I found the book telling me stuff I'd already known。 。。。more

I think this book is a must read if you deal with other people。 The language is meant for someone whose atleast 18 years old。 As a child I wouldn't have been able to understand it and its not because he uses fancy words。 The complex ideas RG expounds upon are so complex your brain has to reach a certain level of maturity to even comprehend。 I think this book is a must read if you deal with other people。 The language is meant for someone whose atleast 18 years old。 As a child I wouldn't have been able to understand it and its not because he uses fancy words。 The complex ideas RG expounds upon are so complex your brain has to reach a certain level of maturity to even comprehend。 。。。more

It's quite an honest sort of book, and it wants you to be the best version of yourself you can be, but it's not above calling people out on their bs and telling you to stay away from people who will never change。I had a lot of fun reading it and pulled so many valuable lessons and quotes from it。 I really do highly recommend it if you want to become a master of understanding people。 。。。more

Another delightful, informative, and insightful collection of stories and morals by Robert Greene。 This time, he weaves the stories of several historically remarkable people and instructs the readers on the forces of human nature enabling and accelerating their fate。The collection indulges the reader in at least two ways。 First, it offers introductions to people and events that they may not have heard or have not studied to their satisfaction。 Every story can be viewed as an abstraction that can Another delightful, informative, and insightful collection of stories and morals by Robert Greene。 This time, he weaves the stories of several historically remarkable people and instructs the readers on the forces of human nature enabling and accelerating their fate。The collection indulges the reader in at least two ways。 First, it offers introductions to people and events that they may not have heard or have not studied to their satisfaction。 Every story can be viewed as an abstraction that can be looked into in more detail if the reader is inclined to do so。 In this case, the curious but busy reader can cherry-pick their next self-educational journey among a vetted collection。Second, Greene offers incisive description and interpretation of the human tendencies, behaviours, be they blessing or folly。 In several cases, one can detect elements of their own conduct or thinking; since many of the described "laws" contribute to pathologies in communication and socialisation, these descriptions can be a pivotal point for the reader to introspect and review their own thinking。Overall, it is an excellent book in both informativeness and pleasure。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

This was super interesting。 I remember almost nothing even though I just finished it, but there were many lightbulbs (that quickly went out) while I was reading it。 I liked how he described a law of human nature (like narcissism or aggression or our fear of dying) and then used a historical figure (like Martin Luther King, Jr。 or Coco Chanel or Flannery O'Connel) to demonstrate it。 It was fun to learn about human nature while also learning about historical figures。 But, damn, I wish it were stic This was super interesting。 I remember almost nothing even though I just finished it, but there were many lightbulbs (that quickly went out) while I was reading it。 I liked how he described a law of human nature (like narcissism or aggression or our fear of dying) and then used a historical figure (like Martin Luther King, Jr。 or Coco Chanel or Flannery O'Connel) to demonstrate it。 It was fun to learn about human nature while also learning about historical figures。 But, damn, I wish it were stickier。 。。。more

I always go and read the more negative reviews before I commit to a 5-star rating on a book in case I'm missing something critical in my reverence for the message or the writing。 None could sway my mind。 This is the best book on the human condition that I've ever read。Robert Greene uses the teacher's formula, found in all great philosophy。 A story, a breakdown and then your action items from the lesson he's given。 A lot of the criticism I read said that he was colouring the facts or that he didn I always go and read the more negative reviews before I commit to a 5-star rating on a book in case I'm missing something critical in my reverence for the message or the writing。 None could sway my mind。 This is the best book on the human condition that I've ever read。Robert Greene uses the teacher's formula, found in all great philosophy。 A story, a breakdown and then your action items from the lesson he's given。 A lot of the criticism I read said that he was colouring the facts or that he didn't do his research but there is a list of 85 books he references as a selected Bibliography which tells me there is much more that he discovered。 If you read this open up your mind to the possibility that you could learn one new thing。 There are 19 chapters so I learned much much more。 The historical accounts are also very exciting。 。。。more

One of my favorite reads ever。 It's very engaging and offers a new perspective on life。 As humans, I feel we don't really understand ourselves and why we do what we do。 I wonder when we are just reacting to what happens to us or what people/life throws at us, are we really living it or just passing it。 This book makes us more aware of our nature。 One of my favorite reads ever。 It's very engaging and offers a new perspective on life。 As humans, I feel we don't really understand ourselves and why we do what we do。 I wonder when we are just reacting to what happens to us or what people/life throws at us, are we really living it or just passing it。 This book makes us more aware of our nature。 。。。more

I loved how Greene discusses about different human aspects (greed, aggression, ennvy etc。) by starting with a piece of history, commenting on it, pinpointing essntial aspects, as well as subtleties, and then moving on to conceptualize a set of laws for you and me to apply so we can be better human beings。 Smooth read, with depth。

DNF。 I got about 1/4 through and was just kind of。。。 bored。 Robert Greene books (like The 48 Laws of Power) are framed/written as all of this secret knowledge that's hard to attain。 When I read 48 Laws in ~2018 I seem to recall at least a few good insights and gave it 4 stars (but left no review, so who knows)。 But this book seemed a bit too cynical, detached, cold。。。 too sure that Greene's view of the world is the correct one。 Your mileage may vary。 Discovered via Ryan Holiday's books newslette DNF。 I got about 1/4 through and was just kind of。。。 bored。 Robert Greene books (like The 48 Laws of Power) are framed/written as all of this secret knowledge that's hard to attain。 When I read 48 Laws in ~2018 I seem to recall at least a few good insights and gave it 4 stars (but left no review, so who knows)。 But this book seemed a bit too cynical, detached, cold。。。 too sure that Greene's view of the world is the correct one。 Your mileage may vary。 Discovered via Ryan Holiday's books newsletter。 。。。more
